ODA LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE TO FEATURE BREAKOUT SESSION ON DENTAL MEDICAID

In light of recent reforms to the Ohio dental Medicaid program, including significant increases in reimbursements, many Ohio dentists are considering accepting new or additional Medicaid patients into their practices. Because of this growing interest, the ODA Leadership Institute will feature a breakout panel discussion on dental Medicaid during the afternoon of March 22. This session entitled “Incorporating Medicaid Patients into Your Dental Practice” will feature a distinguished panel of dental Medicaid experts who will discuss specific strategies for adding Medicaid patients to a patient mix in an efficient and effective manner and will answer your questions. This session will be one of three breakout sessions offered from which attendees will be able to attend two.

Dr. Jacinto “Jay” Beard is a general dentist and past president of the Columbus Dental Society. He has had a successful general dental practice for more than 30 years incorporating both traditional fee-for-service patients and patients who receive Medicaid benefits. He will discuss strategies on how to incorporate Medicaid patients into a patient base in a way that benefits both the patients and the practice.

Dr. Jane Grover, who earned an MPH degree and DDS from the University of Michigan, is the director of the ADA’s Council on Advocacy for Access and Prevention. Grover has a long history of working on access to dental care issues, including having served as a dental director of a community clinic before joining the ADA staff, and will share information related to trends in Medicaid participation from a national perspective.

Chris Moore has been the ODA’s director of dental services for 35 years and has a long history of working on dental Medicaid issues in Ohio. Moore brings a unique perspective as he regularly interacts with representatives from the Ohio Department of Medicaid, the Medicaid managed care entities and their contractors, and dentists who treat Medicaid patients.

Dr. Mark Bronson, who will offer his insights and moderate the panel, is a past president of the ODA and recently concluded a term as vice president of the ADA, where, among other things, he chaired the ADA’s Medicaid Task Force. Bronson has had a private general dental practice in Cincinnati for nearly three decades and has experience with treating Medicaid patients as part of his patient mix for some time. Bronson said, “This panel has a wealth of diverse experiences related to dental Medicaid. I think the Leadership Institute attendees will really enjoy hearing from them and will learn a lot.”
