Leadership Institute is for all dentists
The ODA’s annual Leadership Institute has become one of the best-rated continuing education and leadership development programs in dentistry. It is a past winner of a Golden Apple Award from the American Dental Association for its quality programming. This year’s Leadership Institute, to be held on Friday, March 17, and Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the Hilton Polaris on the north end of Columbus, will continue the tradition of outstanding speakers accompanied by wonderful opportunities to meet with colleagues and socialize in a lively and comfortable setting. And this event is free for ODA members!
This year’s program will kick off with a keynote presentation by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine. DeWine has a long and distinguished career in public service focusing on protecting Ohio’s children and families. DeWine served as Greene County prosecuting attorney, in the Ohio State Senate, in the United States House of Representatives, as Ohio lieutenant governor and in the United States Senate. He will discuss various issues facing the buckeye state, including his efforts to fight Ohio’s prescription drug abuse and heroin problems.
Attendees of the 2017 Leadership Institute will also get the chance to attend breakout sessions on emerging trends in regulatory compliance and risk management in Ohio, keys to holding effective team meetings in the dental office to enhance patient experiences and team morale, and dentistry’s role in combatting Ohio’s opioid crisis. The final keynote presentation on the first day of the Leadership Institute will feature motivational speaker and leadership consultant Dr. Nate Booth discussing “Legendary Leadership in Changing Times.” The first day of the Leadership Institute will conclude with a reception for all attendees.
The second day of the Leadership Institute will include updates from national and state dental leaders on emerging trends in dentistry, including issues related to dental marketplace changes, ethics and professionalism, dental advertising, and oral health promotion. The ODA’s legislative team will participate in a town hall style meeting to discuss the latest legislative and regulatory initiatives, including efforts by outside entities pushing for the creation of dental therapists in Ohio, and updates on legislation related to dental insurance pending at the Ohio Statehouse. The Leadership Institute will conclude with a presentation from Dr. Don Lewis discussing strategies to protect your dental practice from fraud and embezzlement.
The ODA’s Leadership Institute is designed to enhance the skills of all Ohio dentists whether working in a large group setting or solo practice or as a faculty member, consultant or in any other professional position. The goal is to enhance attendees’ leadership skills and professional knowledge for use inside a dental practice, local community or even family setting.
One past attendee summed up the impact of the Leadership Institute this way: “I was skeptical about attending because I don’t necessarily want to be ODA president or anything like that. After attending, I realized the Leadership Institute is about total development. I learned stuff that I use all the time in my office and at home. I look forward to attending again next year.”
