GREAT EFFORT, DEDICATION GOES INTO PLANNING ODA ANNUAL SESSION

First and foremost, I invite all dentists, hygienists and office personnel to the Ohio Dental Association’s 2024 Annual Session, Sept. 12-14, 2024, in downtown Columbus at the Hilton and the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

Annual Session will feature excellent CE, the latest and greatest products and equipment in the Exhibit Hall, and my favorite part – a chance to socialize with friends from across Ohio.

And as a bonus, there are 23 Hours of online CE available to all Annual Session registrants at the close of the meeting until December 31, 2024.

Planning the Annual Session is a very involved process with great effort and dedication from the ODA team and volunteer dentists. The planning process for future meetings takes 18 months or longer. All of the planning and effort is designed to be a benefit to the members, and any profit made goes to the betterment of the ODA and the member dentists.

We survey the attendees every year, at the conclusion of the meeting, to ascertain what’s on the “wish list” for the next meeting. The Annual Session Committee scouts other meetings, both in person and online, to discover the most pertinent/best speakers and topics to best satisfy that wish list. Our Exhibit Hall provides an opportunity to examine and learn about the latest products and techniques, all in a one-stop visit.

The roster of speakers has a wealth of information for the entire office. Every speaker has been vetted by dentists to assure a great presentation and useful information.

After numerous hours/days of scouting for the speakers and vendors for the Exhibit Hall, the hard work begins. Even more time and effort is needed to obtain the contracts from the multiple parties involved. Then, there is the need to schedule and arrange the lecture rooms for the various ancillary organizations: the House of Delegates, OSU and Case receptions, ICD, ACD, Pierre Fauchard, The Callahan Awards of Excellence, the Bash!, Hospitality Suites for multiple groups, not to mention the major task of getting the booths and equipment and everything else into the convention center. The signs must be printed and placed properly, plus a large list of other items that are too numerous to mention.

The Annual Session Committee can’t thank the OSU Pre-Dental Club enough for all their invaluable help throughout the meeting. They truly help with room set-ups, greeting attendees and helping to support speakers.

Finally, the Annual Session Committee and I want to thank ODA Executive Director David Owsiany, the entire ODA team, especially ODA Director of Meetings and Conventions Suzanne Brooks and ODA Exhibit Hall Manager Amy Szmania for their absolute dedication and unbelievable expertise. None of this would be possible without them!
