THE ODA WELLNESS TRUST CELEBRATES 10 YEARS
Celebrating a decade of the ODA Wellness Trust marks a significant milestone in providing accessible and affordable health care coverage to ODA members. Over the past 10 years, the ODA Wellness Trust has not only fulfilled its core mission but has also evolved and adapted to meet the changing needs of its members and the health care landscape as a whole.
In 2014, the ODA Wellness Trust was created in response to the Affordable Care Act, building on the ODA’s 20 year experience of meeting its members’ health insurance needs. The ODA and ODA Services Corp. have always had a shared vision to address the challenges individual dentists and dental practices face in accessing quality health care coverage.
Through collaboration and innovation, the ODA Services Corp. made the bold decision to self-insure their own private health plan by pooling resources and partnering with industry leading corporations, offering comprehensive coverage options at competitive prices. In fact, the ODA Wellness Trust was the first self-insured health plan licensed by the Ohio Department of Insurance following enactment of the ACA.
In the early years, the ODA Wellness Trust focused on growing its enrollment base, building its claims reserve and balance sheet, and offering benefit options that ODA members desire. As enrollment grew and the plan gained traction, it became one of the ODA’s most valuable member benefits as a trusted resource for ODA members, their families and staff seeking affordable health care solutions.
Throughout its journey, the health plan has weathered various challenges, including regulatory changes, economic fluctuations, and shifts in the health care landscape. However, its commitment to serving its members has remained steadfast, driving continuous improvement and innovation.
One of the key achievements of the ODA Wellness Trust over the past decade has been its ability to adapt to changing market dynamics and evolving member needs. As a self-insured, private health plan, the ODA Wellness Trust is managed by ODA member dentists who are all enrolled in the plan. Whether through expanding coverage options, enhancing benefits, or providing increased flexibility during COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Trustees has demonstrated agility and responsiveness in meeting the diverse health care needs of its members.
As we reflect on the past 10 years, it’s important to acknowledge the collective effort and dedication that has fueled the success of the health plan. From the visionary leadership of the ODA and ODA Services Corp, to the unwavering support of the ODA members and vendor partners, the plan’s achievements are a testament to the power of collaboration and shared purpose.
