STIVERS TO DELIVER KEYNOTE PRESENTATION AT UPCOMING ODA LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
Steve Stivers, president and CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, will deliver a keynote presentation at the upcoming ODA Leadership Institute on Friday, March 18. I have known Steve since he served in the Ohio Senate from 2003 to 2008. As a state senator, Steve served with great distinction on various committees and was chair of the Insurance, Commerce and Labor Committee, where our paths often crossed.
After serving at the Ohio Statehouse, Stivers was elected to the Unites States House of Representatives in 2011 and served in Congress until his resignation last year. Steve left Congress to take over as the head of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. The Ohio Chamber is, of course, the state’s leading business advocate and resource, aggressively championing free enterprise, economic competitiveness and growth for the benefit of all Ohioans.
Steve is the perfect fit for the Ohio Chamber because throughout his career – as a state senator and U.S. congressman – he has always been a leader in promoting job creation, economic development, and fiscal responsibility.
Steve also has another career outside of the realm of public policy. As a career soldier, Stivers served over 30 years in the Ohio Army National Guard and holds the rank of major general. He served the United States overseas during Operation Freedom in Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and Djibouti where he led 400 soldiers and contractors. Steve is particularly proud that every one of the soldiers and contractors that he led returned home safely to the U.S. Steve received the Bronze Star for his leadership throughout his deployment.
Stivers received his bachelor’s degree and his MBA from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the Army War College.
Steve will draw on his amazing career and life experiences for his keynote presentation. He will have a particular focus on Ohio’s current business and political climate and what they may portend for the upcoming 2022 elections, where Ohioans will vote for governor, U.S. senator, Ohio Supreme Court and Ohio and U.S. House of Representatives seats among others.
