On Oct. 16, the American Dental Association House of Delegates elected Dr. Mark Bronson, a general dentist from Cincinnati, to be ADA’s second vice president.

“With the current issues affecting the dental profession, our association and American society, Dr. Bronson is the right person at the right time to serve as ADA second vice president,” said David Owsiany, ODA executive Director. “His leadership will serve us well.”

Bronson said “during my service as the second vice president I hope to promote the ADA’s core values of putting members first and committing to being a science and evidence-based organization. I will also promote excellence, integrity and diversity within the ADA while working to set us on a course to improve oral health. My focus will be to increase membership, improve collaboration with allied dental organizations and enhance communication with the ADA House of Delegates.

Bronson has been involved in organized dentistry at the local, state and national levels since he was in dental school.

At The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, he served as the national student representative to the National Dental Association’s Board of Trustees for two years.

With the Cincinnati Dental Society, he has served as chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee, Public Relations Committee, Children’s Dental Health Committee and on many councils and committees including Finance Committee, Nomination Committee, Honors Committee and Investment Committee. He followed in his father’s footsteps to serve as Cincinnati Dental Society president in 2007 and also has served on the society’s Oral Health Foundation Board of Trustees and has volunteered at the society’s Leave No Vet Behind program and Give Kids A Smile events.

With the Ohio Dental Association, Bronson has served as chairman of the Council on Dental Care Programs and Dental Practice and on the Finance Committee, the Annual Session Committee, ODA Services Corp. Investment Committee, the Ohio Dental Political Action Committee Board and as a delegate, among other positions. He served as president of the ODA in 2011.

With the American Dental Association, he has served as a delegate, chair of the State Public Affairs Committee, the Council on Governmental Affairs and the 7th District Caucus, and has served on the ADA Task Force on Governance, among other positions.

“It was great to watch Dr. Bronson address the ADA Caucuses in Las Vegas,” said Dr. Tom Paumier, campaign chair for Bronson. “He shared how his father, as both a dentist and ordained minister was such a great role model. Dr. Fred Bronson joined the ADA in the early 1960s and immediately was involved in organized dentistry. He instilled the value and importance of being a member and giving back to your profession to Mark when he joined his practice. While talking to the caucuses, Mark emphasized his commitment to the ADA core values when making decisions at the ADA Board table. While being African American certainly represents the core value of diversity, Mark stated ‘there are no entitlements to becoming the second vice president. A vote for me must be because I have put in the work to earn that leadership role.’ Clearly the ADA delegates from across the country recognized the hard work Mark has done and the leadership skills he possesses as they overwhelmingly voted for him to be the next ADA second vice president. It was an honor to be a part of his campaign team and I’m confident he will leave his ‘mark’ in an impactful way while serving at the ADA.”

The second vice president serves as a voting member of the ADA Board of Trustees, which is the managing body of the association, vested with the power to conduct all business of the association.

“I am most happy for the 7th district of the ADA, and ODA in particular,” Bronson said. “My campaign team with Tom Paumier, Matt Messina, David Owsiany, Joe Crowley, Alex Mellion, Dale Anne Featheringham, Najia Usman, Jill Burns, Michael Halasz, Kevin Laing and Rob Mazzola, with assistance from Ron Lemmo, Billie Sue Kyger, Canise Bean, Monica Newby, Rick Andolina, and last but not least Fred Bronson was outstanding,” Bronson said. “This was a total team effort of crafting the message, contacts across the country and execution. I would like to give a heart filled thanks to 7th District delegates and alternates for their focus on the campaign. I appreciate the ODA House of Delegates’ confidence in me, and ODA staff and the people behind the scenes with videos, brochures, pins, all the efforts. This is one I will never forget.”
