Why should new dentists attend the 2017 ODA Annual Session?

New Dentist Reception

The New Dentist Reception gives dentists in practice for 10 years or less a chance to catch up with old classmates and meet other new dentists from across the state.

The 2017 ODA Annual Session – Together Towards Tomorrow – offers several specific opportunities designed especially for the new dentist. From discounts to CE opportunities and special events, there is something for everyone.

Save money with discounts

Dentists who have been in practice for four years or less will not be charged a registration fee. The discount is applied after information provided by each attendee is matched with ODA membership records to validate the discount.

This year, the ODA is also offering an Annual Session registration discount to dentists who register staff members. Any dentist who registers three staff members will be able to register a fourth staff member for free.

CE opportunities designed specifically for new dentists

Annual Session offers a wide variety of CE opportunities – from motivational courses to hands-on workshops to practice management classes – and has a few classes specifically geared toward new dentists.

“What’s Hot and Getting Hotter: Must Have Products & Materials” will be presented by Dr. Howard Glazer from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 14. In the course, Glazer will present a potpourri of the materials, products and techniques that he uses to make the day more productive, easier and fun. Register for this course using Course Code T10.

“Direct Restorations: Contacts, Complications, Cosmetics and Occlusion” will be presented by Dr. Todd Snyder from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 15. This course will focus on direct restorative materials and looks at addressing complications before they happen. It will look at the pros and cons of various bonding agents, discuss how to eliminate sensitivity with the use of different types of materials, and teach proper composite placement to minimize or eliminate adjustments. Register for this course using Course Code F33.

“How to Negotiate or Renegotiate the Terms and Rental Rates in your Office Lease” will be presented by Justin Ditkofsky from 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 16. The course will focus on how to determine the ROI on a real estate investment, how to identify lease traps and negotiate the best rental rates and terms during your renewal, and how to increase practice value with a well-structured and negotiated lease agreement. Register for this course using Course Code S71.

“Top 10 Legal Issues in Today’s Dental Office” will be presented by ODA Executive Director David Owsiany from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 17. In the course, attendees will hear about the latest updates to Ohio’s dental laws and regulations, learn how to minimize exposure to liability and regulatory jeopardy, and learn about the most common legal pitfalls that affect dental practices and how to avoid them. Register for this course using Course Code Y75.

Special events for new dentists

In addition to the CE courses, dentists in practice for 10 years or less are invited to attend the New Dentist Reception from 9 to 11 p.m. Sept. 14. The reception will take place at Denmark, a Euro-style cocktail bistro located right across the street from the main doors of the Columbus Convention Center. It’s a great opportunity for new dentists to meet up with old classmates and new colleagues from across the state. The event is free, but registration is required with Event Code E92.

New dentists are also invited to Match @ ODA Annual Session, a free event designed to help new dentists meet seasoned dentists who are preparing for a practice transition or looking to expand their practice. The event will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 16 and will include a light brunch. Register using Event Code E97.

New dentists can purchase the products they need, all in one place

The Exhibit Hall has something for everyone – whether it’s a new associate looking for a pair of loupes or someone preparing to open their own practice who needs to outfit an entire office.

Annual Session will feature one of the largest Exhibit Halls in the area, where attendees can comparison shop and speak to knowledgeable sales reps who can answer questions about their products. The Exhibit Hall will contain more than 200 booths. Attendees can also drop off their ticket in the Membership Booth at the back of the Exhibit Hall each day to be entered into a drawing for a door prize.

A free Exhibits Only Pass will again be offered on Saturday, Sept. 16. Registering for this category allows attendees to only shop the Exhibit Hall. This will give attendees an opportunity to check out the meeting without having to pay registration fees if they do not plan to attend any CE courses.

Get tech advice from experts

New this year, the Exhibit Hall will feature a Tech Bar, where dentists can speak to experts about digital and online technology. The Tech Bar will feature experts who can speak to attendees about solutions for productivity, social media, marketing, practical software or an array of other interests. Attendees can also have a professional headshot taken. Experts can help answer any tech related questions, expand professional networks on LinkedIn and help navigate the Annual Session mobile app. They can also help members update their Find-a-Dentist profile with the ADA.
