Grassroots Legislative Efforts
Grassroots legislative efforts are extremely important to delivering organized dentistry's message at the Statehouse. Watch the video below to learn about grassroots advocacy (if you are browsing on a mobile device, please click here to watch).
AdvanceOHIO (Advance Oral Health in Ohio) is the ODA's statewide grassroots advocacy network. The goal is to match ODA contact dentists with Ohio’s state legislators. AdvanceOHIO is modeled after the ADA's grassroots program and is administered by the ODPAC Board of Directors. It was the first of its kind among state dental associations, and has been honored by the ADA as well as the American Society of Association Executives and the Ohio Society of Association Executives for its outstanding legislative work.

Contact Your Legislators
To contact your legislators, visit the ODA's Engage website. On the Engage site, you will be able to find information and calls to action on current ODA issues, plus look up your elected officials.
When contacting your legislators it is important to: let them know you are a constituent and a member of the ODA, discuss ODA legislative priorities, thank them for their time and support and let them know that you are happy to help any time they have questions about dentistry.
Be sure not to: discuss any legislation not included in the ODA legislative agenda, pledge any funds or future support, imply that ODPAC support of the legislator's campaign is contingent upon his/her support of ODA issues, or criticize any state agency.
Day at the Statehouse
Day at the Statehouse is a yearly event where dentists come to Columbus to talk to their legislators about issues important to dentistry.
The ODA’s 2016 Day at the Statehouse was held on April 13. A total of 152 dentists, spouses, office staff and dental students attended the event this year. Of the 152 attendees, a record number of 106 were member dentists. Out of the 106 dentist attendees, 23 attended the event for the first time, which is also a new record. Overall, 19 of Ohio’s 25 dental societies were represented at the event. A total of 40 dental students from the OSU College of Dentistry and CWRU School of Dental Medicine also attended the event. Over the years, this grassroots event has served a vital role in delivering organized dentistry’s message at the Statehouse.
