About the ODA

The Executive Committee is the managing body of the Ohio Dental Association. The Executive Committee administers the policies established by the House of Delegates and the Ad Interim Committee.

The Executive Committee consists of seven members. The president, president-elect, vice president, immediate past president, secretary and treasurer are the voting members of the committee. The speaker of the House is an ex officio member of the committee, without the right to vote. The Executive Committee traditionally meets five times during the year.

Dr. Paul Casamassimo is the Chief of Dentistry at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and a professor of pediatric dentistry at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He received the ODA’s Humanitarian Award in 2003. He is a past secretary of the ODA, past president of the Columbus Dental Society, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped. Dr. Casamassimo is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). He is a member of the American Dental Education Association, Academy of Dentistry for Disabled Persons, American Association of Hospital Dentists, Ohio Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor fraternity. Dr. Casamassimo earned his BS degree and his DDS degree from Georgetown University and his MS degree in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Iowa.

Dr. Thomas Paumier is a general dentist in private practice in Canton and is an active staff member at Mercy Medical Center. He is a past president of the Stark County Dental Society, past treasurer of the Ohio Dental Association, and past chair of the ODA Services Corporation and the ODA’s Annual Session Committee. He is the chair of the ADA Council on Members Insurance and Retirement Programs, a fellow of the American College of Dentists and International College of Dentists, and a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Mercy Medical Center Foundation. Dr. Paumier earned his BS degree and DDS degree from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Christopher Connell is a general dentist in private practice in Lyndhurst. He is a past treasurer of the ODA, past president of the Greater Cleveland Dental Society, past chair of the ODA’s Council on Dental Care Programs and Dental Practice and Finance Committee. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He is a past president of the Northeastern Ohio Dental Society and is the past chair of the ODA’s Council on Membership Services and Dental Education and Licensure Committee. He is a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. David Waldman is a general dentist in private practice in Youngstown. He received the ODA’s Humanitarian Award in 2006. He is a past president of the Corydon Palmer Dental Society and is a former member of the ODA’s Annual Session Committee, Council on Access to Care and Public Service, and Dental Education and Licensure Committee. He is a past president and past treasurer of the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity. Dr. Waldman earned his BS and DDS degrees from Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Bert Jacob is a general dentist in private practice in Cincinnati. He is a past president of the Cincinnati Dental Society, and has served as the vice chair for the ODA Services Corporation and as a member on the ODA’s Annual Session Committee and Finance Committee. Dr. Jacob earned his BS degree from Xavier University and his DDS degree from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Michael Halasz is a general dentist in private practice in Kettering. He served as the vice speaker of the ODA House of Delegates from 2003-2009. He is a past president of the Dayton Dental Society, past chair of the ODA’s Council on Dental Care Programs and Dental Practice and past member of the ADA Council on Dental Practice. He is a current member of the ADA Council on Ethics, Bylaws and Judicial Affairs, International College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy and National Association of Parliamentarians. Dr. Halasz received his DDS degree from The Ohio State University.

David Owsiany has been executive director of the ODA since 2002. He previously served as director of legislative and legal services for the ODA, was a clerk to Justice Robert W. Cook of the Illinois Appellate Court, worked for the staff of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, and was president of the Buckeye Institute for Public Policy Solutions. He is  an honorary member of the American College of Dentists. David earned his BA degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and his JD degree from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis.
